The new TAJ
is well on its way...
The new Taj Mahal is going up! We got some help from a local
architect, finalized the plans, and contracted with former
crafts and mountaineering counselor turned contractor Bill
Burdett (whose wife Lee runs the Green Cove riding program)
to build it.
We wanted plenty of deck, covered, since
that’s a favorite
hangout during odd times like pre-lunch, and for rainy opening
days (which we never have, of course). We wanted a half log
building, like the old version. We wanted a larger store, since
the old one was cramped if any two people tried to occupy it
at the same time. We wanted open and airy, a place for visitors, books,
and room to put up some photos and perhaps other memorabilia
from history. And
some decent guest bathrooms!
It’s in the fast moving stage at this point… the
roof trusses and sheeting went up in a day, shingles will be on by the time you read this, windows and doors
very quickly, electric and plumbing close behind. Those
who remember the former Taj will miss it, I’m sure, but
we think you’ll be pleased with the new version!! Click
here for more pictures of the building process, from foundations
to present.

Summer is almost here!
We're in the final stages of lining up staff
(there are some spots left, if you're interested), and doing
quite a bit of other work around camp. June Camp has been full
for some time, but other sessions have space available still.
We love referrals... if you know someone who needs a brochure
and DVD, let us know! (Email, or phone 800 688-5789)

Spring Canoe/Kayak
Clinic coming up!
The spring Canoe/Kayak clinic
is coming up May 4 - 6... come knock the rust off that paddle!
Each spring and each fall, Gordon Grant and
several others donate a weekend of time to put on our biannual Canoe
Clinic,
which is a fundraiser for the scholarship fund. The spring
clinic has a few spaces left.
This is a great way to have fun, see some old camp friends,
refresh your river skills, and give to a worthy cause all at
once. Call or email if
you’d like to join in; click
here for a pdf file of info
and a registration form (you'll need a pdf reader, like Adobe
Acrobat). It’s
mainly adults, but there will be several teens here as well.
Call or email if you'd like to join us!!

Camper
letters...
When a new camper registers for camp, we
like to ask him to write and let us know what it is he's
looking forward to at camp. We get some great letters and artwork, and
would like to share a few with you (anonymized, of course).
These, of course, are from our younger campers... the older
guys' letters aren't as much fun to read! Click
here for a
full page of letters!
