Been away for awhile? Check out old newsletters in the Archive !

We are all back from various places for the Holidays. Robert went to the SC coast, Andrew went to California, and Frank spent a week in the Bahamas. We are back and ready to Rock n' Roll. January is filled with more traveling and staff interviewing. Lots of our staff from last year are headed back and several new faces too. Remember Rob Kowalski? Here's a hint, more fun, sun, and sailing than you know what to do with but not here last year.

We also heard recently that Tim Anderson has achieved the number 1 ranking for the Super Sport class in mountain biking. And Simon Everett has been accepting the the MBA program at Wake Forest.

Around camp:
The F-Dock is ready for a full summer of sweeps and landings. It has a fresh layer of decking on it. Lakefront cabins are getting some extra attention this year. We are also opening up the canopy in camp. See if you notice which trees aren't there anymore.

Coming this spring:
We are still doing a good bit of shoulder season stuff here at camp. We will have a wedding here at Mondamin in May. We are also hosting the Kentucky Derby viewing that benefits African Medical Mission. We have hosted this event which is connected to the Burdett family for several years over at Green Cove. Lee Burdett is probably the current "staff member who has been here the longest" other than Frank.

It's been raining here in western NC

Some of you may know that one of my favorite canoe and kayak rivers is the Upper Upper Tuckaseegee. It is full of fun slides. Matt Cooper came by and incidently got to go make the run with me. What a blast!

Those of you who plan on spending some time at the canoe docks will appreciate that we are re-decking it. Of course the extra water makes it hard to continue right now. We'll finish it next week.

Hornet's Nest Cabin gets straightened

Although relegated to staff for many years, Hornet's Nest Cabin got a little help recently. We started by trying to straighten it from underneath. While this helped, we realized that it needed a little more. We hooked the winch up and pulled the cabin back to being perfectly plumb.

For those of you who don't remember it:

(just kidding)

We often get asked what we do in the winter

Well, The answer is a little of everything. Of course we are already preparing for Summer 2009 and we have lots of folks already planning to join us. Staff wise, Courtland Smith plans on being here along with Jon Mullen and Rick Deluga. Our nurses are all returning. We also have lots of campers signed up. Of course the early registration brought in many registrations. Chances are, someone you know is already signed up.

We have been traveling all around visiting former campers and staff as well as meeting new prospective campers. There was a great group in New Orleans and Mandeville, LA. Lousiville, KY was a big showing. Cincinnati, Dallas, Birmingham, and many others were also great fun. If you heven't seen the schedule, check it out! Who knows, maybe Frank will give you a ride in the plane.
